FAQS

Does sauna suit work?

Sauna suits can be effective for short-term weight loss (primarily water weight), improving heat acclimation for athletes, and potentially enhancing endurance performance, but they are not a long-term weight loss solution or a substitute for a healthy lifestyle.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

Benefits:

  • Heat Acclimation:Sauna suits can help athletes acclimate to performing in higher-temperature conditions, leading to increased capacity for thermoregulation, increased sweat rate, and potentially improved VO2 max (maximal oxygen consumption).
  • Enhanced Endurance:By simulating hotter conditions, training in a sauna suit may increase endurance performance.
  • Weight Loss (Short-Term):Sauna suits can induce sweating, leading to temporary water weight loss, which can be beneficial for athletes trying to make weight class.
  • Improved Blood Glucose Levels, Resting Metabolic Rate, and Body Fat Percentage:Some studies have shown improvements in these areas after an eight-week exercise program in which participants worked out in sauna clothes compared to regular exercise clothes.
  • Increased Physiological and Perceptual Strain:Exercising in a sauna suit, even in temperate conditions, can increase physiological strain and sweat loss compared to exercising without one.
What Is a Sauna Suit?

A sauna suit is a workout garment specifically designed to retain heat. Many of these suits are made of neoprene and bear a resemblance to a wetsuit. You can obtain suits that cover the entire body or separate the upper and lower body.

When you exercise wearing a sauna suit, you trap heat around your body and produce more sweat than you would when using typical workout gear. The manufacturers of sauna suits suggest that the effort of working out in the suit enhances the intensity of a workout without the need to increase your actual level of exertion. Theoretically, the result would be higher fitness levels and potentially increased weight loss after regular use of a sauna suit.

Are Sauna Suits Safe For Your Body?

Any activity that raises your body temperature or causes excessive sweating can result in heat-related illness. Utilizing a sauna suit without appropriately replenishing lost fluids poses a risk of heat exhaustion. Symptoms of heat-related illness comprise:

Dizziness.
Faintness.
Tiredness.
Headache.
Heavy sweating.
Low blood pressure when standing.
Muscle cramps.
Nausea.
Weak and rapid pulse.

If you encounter these symptoms, take off the sauna suit and cease exercising. Move to a cool place to rest and allow your body to cool down. Drink plenty of water or a sports drink to replace lost electrolytes. Without prompt attention, heat exhaustion can progress to heatstroke, which is a life-threatening condition.

Under normal circumstances, you can use it with confidence.

Sauna Suit Benefits

There is scarce research on whether sauna suits bring about significant benefits. One study affirmed that wearing a sauna suit during exercise does enhance physiological stress and result in greater sweat loss. However, the study failed to draw conclusions regarding whether that increased stress translates into enhanced athletic performance.

Another study made a comparison of fitness outcomes among groups of participants. Some of them wore sauna suits during exercise, while others did not. Both groups carried out similar exercise regimens. At the conclusion of the study, the group wearing the sauna suits demonstrated an 11.7% enhancement in VO2 max, which refers to the amount of oxygen their bodies utilized when exercising to the fullest extent, compared to a 7.3% improvement in the exercise-only group. The sauna suit group also had an average 2.6% reduction in body weight and a 13.8% decrease in body fat. The exercise-only group had an average 0.9% reduction in body weight and an 8.3% decrease in body fat.
